Didn't you get it on 360? PC + Steam is the way to go with Valve games.

(L4D was fun to play mulit with my friend at home though)

can spiders climb vertical/horizontal striped walls?
(where rows/columns are only 1 wide/tall and the other is inset one block)

what about checkered walls?

Basically, spiders can only climb straight up, as if there was a ladder against the block. Any block protruding from the surface they're climbing will stop them from going any further, because they can't climb horizontally/on ceilings.

They can however move diagonally a bit by falling and climbing repeatedly.

Why would anyone update to 1.6?? It added way worse bugs than the ones it fixed and some of the "fixes" remove cool features.

1.6 bullshit:
Dogs can't follow
webs do suffocation damage
dropping tools, pick them up, one swing and the tool dies
horrible on CPU
etc, etc, etc

I updated to 1.6 because I have a 1.5_01 .minecraft backup and I wanted to see the new stuff.

Ahh.

How are the pretzel traps? Do items thrown/dropped on them fall through? (would be nice for the bottom of a drown trap)

Kind of lame that they open up instead of down though, IMO.

Actual trap doors *like to a basement for instance* open up. You are thinking of "MUHAHAHHAHHAH!! *presses button*" trap doors which these are not. You can make drawbridges with these. Also. even though they open up, you can still use them for traps. On rare occasions, you can pass through them while they are closed. Haven't tried putting items on them, but for the drowner, I prefer to look up and see the mobs as they drown. There is no danger of them falling through the bottom 3-4 layers of source blocks. They actively swim up against the downward current at that point. If you want to check out 1.6 yourself just copy and paste your /%appdata%/roaming/.minecraft folder somewhere and update. Restore the copy to go back to 1.5.

Who's seen a drawbridge with a 1m drop before it? It should be flush with the ground or slightly higher IMO.
and can they actually be "stuck" together to make a long drawbridge that opens from one end?

Two rows of blocks 2 m apart, trap door on each block, redstone circuit = draw bridge. Put lava under it for funzies.

found a way to downgrade
http://singaming.com/minecraft/forum/sh ... &p=1002027

the "automatic" one (exe) works. Manual comes with a stupid mod.

Every minecraft update does unspeakable things to it's performance. I personally like to think it's because Notch is a very hateful man and that every update is the digital manifestation of his undying rage.

Or something along those lines.

That would explain my nether bed exploding.

In the next update, wolves will defecate on your bed and sleeping on them will take away two hearts of health.

This is a "fourth wall" breaking mechanic when developers introduce events that happened in their lives into their games.

1.6.5 came out today- a new version coming next week announced.

...I vote we still wait on update for the server because of the current reported bugs:

* Memory leaks.
* Multiple portals aren't working correctly in SMP.
* Sometimes you cannot pick up items dropped onto cobblestone.

* Framerate limit can not be removed, but setting Framerate limit at 90 or 200 FPS allows FPS to exceed this.[1]
* Setting Framerate Limit to 40 FPS may increase CPU usage on some computers.[2]
* Holding a map in a boat can cause the left arm to be too high.[3]
* It is no longer possible to use up all crafting materials at once by shift-clicking.
* After you teleport to the nether, you will experience the swirl screen as if you were heading back as soon as you arrived. This won't teleport you though, but the animation won't stop until you move.
* Sometimes when trying to lie down on the bed, it fails and removes one half of the heart in MP.
* Shadows sometimes do not update.
* Sometimes blocks and items respawn in SMP, but you don't get anything from them anymore, you get lots of lag on reconnect.
* Difficulty may revert to "Easy" when you load a save, at least when you had it previously on "Peaceful."
* Wolves get hit while standing on furnaces and can't move while on them.
* Sometimes objects are continuously cloning after death.[4]
* Tools that have been used, dropped, then picked up, and thus display a health bar, will break when used not only when used properly but also if used to activate a lever or other such device.
* Respawn after death results in being stuck until breaking block below. Does not occur at all spawn points. [5]
* If you switch from windowed to fullscreen when in a map, the mouse movement will be limited by the screen borders. This can be fixed by switching into your inventory.
* Beds no longer work in SMP.
